As part of an international exchange program that has continued since 1983, Shawnee Mission South High School orchestra students recently joined a group of musicians from Germany and presented a concert.

The musicians from Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, which is a sister city to Overland Park, joined the SM South students as a combined orchestra this month. Click here to see a video.

In 2017, more than 60 Shawnee Mission South students traveled to Germany and were hosted by families. This year, the students from Germany stayed with host families in Kansas and presented the concert.

“The opportunity is tremendous,” Jonathan Wiebe, SM South orchestra director said. “It’s a way of experiencing people, culture, and places. I love that my students get to visit these places, live in homes, and broaden their horizons.”
