Shawnee Mission Student Artwork Honored in SevenDays Button Art Competition

SevenDays Artwork
Shawnee Mission School District

Original artwork, created by Shawnee Mission high school students, was selected to be a part of a weeklong, communitywide promotion of kindness and respect called SevenDays.

As part of SevenDays, organizers sponsor an art contest for students to create designs for seven different buttons to promote awareness for each of day of the annual event. The daily themes used as inspiration for the artwork include:  Love, Others, Connect, Discover, You, Go, and Onward.

Alyssa Watson, Shawnee Mission West freshman, designed the day two button: Discover. Blake Straughn, Shawnee Mission West senior, designed the day five button: You. Karen Rosales, Shawnee Mission North junior, designed the day six button: Go.

The artwork will be on display at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, 5801 W. 115th St., from March 24 through April 20. The winners in this art competition receive  $250 and are invited to a SevenDays kickoff event in April.

The SevenDays annual event is April 9-15. The winning button artwork is also on display at the SevenDays website at http://givesevendays.org/
