Emmett Liljegren, a junior at Shawnee Mission East High School, earned a perfect composite score on the ACT exam. He said he was very surprised when he opened the letter and saw the good news.

“I ran to tell my parents, then called my grandparents who always support my education and studying,” Liljegren said. “It was very gratifying to see my hard work and hours of studying paying off.”

Liljegren is engaged in orchestra, theater, SHARE, and teaches sign language in American Sign Language Club.

After high school, Liljegren would like to study biochemistry or neuroscience and then attend medical school.

Liljegren said he is grateful to all of his teachers for supporting his education.

“I’d like to especially give a shout out to Mr. Burrows, my calculus teacher this year, and Ms. Gaunce, my English teacher,” Liljegren noted. “They both go beyond in helping their students and deeply care about our success and gave me the tools I needed to succeed.”

Less than one-tenth of one percent of all test takers earn a perfect composite score on the ACT exam.
