Nam Pham, SM Northwest senior, won the boys singles state championship at the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) 6A tournament. Pham finished his senior year undefeated and will play tennis next year at Illinois State University.

From SM East, Jake Louiselle finished in sixth place and Blake Eason finished in eighth place in singles. Abhirup Mukerjee from SM West finished in twelfth place.

In the doubles competition, Hayden Leatherwood/Jacob Tilton, SM East finished in third place and Sam Freund/Hudson Mosher finished in fourth place.

SM East took first place in the Team Standings. Shawnee Mission Northwest’s team finished in seventh place and SM West finished in fourteenth place.

“Our state championship was truly a team effort,” Coach Andy Gibb, SM East, said. “We knew that other teams might have stronger individual pieces, but our depth and quality at both singles positions and from both of our doubles teams carried us to the team championship.

Each of our guys did his part to help us be successful.”
