SMSD Educator Named Kansas Teacher of the Year Finalist

Melissa Molteni, a second-grade teacher at Corinth Elementary School, is a Region 3 finalist for  the 2020 Kansas Teacher of the Year Award.

As a finalist, she was presented with $2,000 and is now eligible to be named Kansas Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in November in Wichita. She is one of eight finalists in the state.

This honor recognizes teaching excellence in classrooms across the state at the elementary and secondary level. Natalie Johnson-Berry, an English Language Arts teacher at Shawnee Mission North was honored as a Kansas Teacher of the Year nominee for excellence in secondary education.

Honorees are recognized in four regions in Kansas. The individual selected as the Kansas Teacher of the Year becomes eligible for the National Teacher of the Year program. Participants in the Kansas Teacher of the Year program are able to join a network of exemplary Kansas teacher who meet regularly to learn from one another and discuss the improvement of schools, student performance, and the teaching profession.
