Chef John Currence, a Top Chef Master Chef and James Beard Award Winner, will soon serve as guest chef in the Guest Chef series at the Broadmoor Bistro. He and Shawnee Mission Culinary Arts students will prepare and host dinner at 6 p.m. on March 26 at the Broadmoor Bistro at the Center for Academic Achievement, 8200 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, KS 66204. Currence, chef and owner of City Grocery Restaurant Group in Oxford, Mississippi, will mentor Culinary Arts students during the day as they prepare for evening dinner event. The menu will feature his take on flavors from his native New Orleans.
Currence opened his City Grocery restaurant in 1992. In the time since, the City Grocery Restaurant Group has opened Nacho Mama’s, Kalo’s, Ajax Diner, City Grocery Catering Company, Boure, Big Bad Breakfast and Snackbar.
