Virtual Graduation Ceremonies to be Broadcast, In-Person Ceremonies Canceled
Shawnee Mission School District

The school district and high school administrative teams have been closely following the rates of COVID-19 infections in Johnson County and across the country. They have also been in continual contact with state and county officials and are following their recommended guiding principles around COVID-19.

Using the best information available, for the health and safety of students, families, and staff, in-person graduation ceremonies on July 14, 15, and 16 have been canceled. In a joint letter sent to the families of 2020 graduates, administrators stated this was a very difficult decision, but with all information and guidance about large in-person gatherings and the increased risk of spreading the virus, it is the best decision for the community.

In place of each live ceremony, Shawnee Mission will broadcast virtual graduation ceremonies on the following dates and times:

East           July 14th, 8 p.m.

South         July 14th, 8 p.m.

North          July 15th, 8 p.m.

West          July 15th, 8 p.m.

Northwest   July 16th, 8 p.m.

Arrowhead July 16th, 6 p.m.

Horizons     July 16th, 8 p.m.

Links to the broadcast will be available on the district website the day of the scheduled graduation. In addition, graduates receive information directly from principals about links to download the graduation, so they and their family members and friends can all celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2020.
