One of the Shawnee Mission School District’s biggest celebrations of student achievement takes place this weekend.
The 57th annual Research and Development Forum (R&D Forum) will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Shawnee Mission West High School, 8800 W. 85th St. The R&D Forum is a districtwide showcase of student innovation and achievement, is free and open to the public, and provides an opportunity for attendees to help people in our community.
The R&D Forum Will Feature:
· Innovative Student Projects in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math
· Interactive Exhibits including
High school robotics teams
CO2 Car races
Hands-on Science Activities and Art Projects
· Musical Performances
· From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., high school students will also compete in a Lunch Challenge, sponsored by Harvesters. Each team will collaborate to plan and prepare a meal with a specified budget while learning about the challenges of food insecurity in our community.
At 4 p.m. the event will conclude with an award ceremony and reception.

Support Harvesters
Attendees are encouraged to bring food items to donate to support Harvesters. The goal is to fill donation barrels at the R&D Forum with food items, providing a friendly competition among feeder patterns.

Canned meats
Peanut butter
Boxed Meals
Soup
Hot and cold cereal
Household products
