Paraprofessionals assist teachers with educational and non-educational activities. This may include small groups of individual students in teacher-planned instructional activities. They also assist with scoring and checking papers and preparing and copying materials.
Dele Popoola coaches soccer and serves as a paraprofessional at South. When he was honored by colleagues at his school, they noted he is always smiling and willing to do whatever is necessary for the safety and benefit of both the students and other paras and teachers
Amy Higginbotham, is a paraprofessional who worked with students enrolled in special education who obtained employment experience at the Broadmoor Bistro last year. She worked with the students on customer service, cleaning, and ringing up orders.
“I really enjoy working with the students and celebrating their success,” Higginbotham shared. The first semester of this year her duties will be revised to support remote learning, hybrid learning, and in-person learning.
Tanya Krsnich, is an educational aide, who supports mostly Kindergarten through second grade students at Corinth Elementary School. She often reads or helps with math in small groups, she does whatever she needs to do to support the teachers.
“Tanya is very dedicated to the students and an incredible support for our Corinth team,” said Chris Lowe, Corinth principal.
Aides may serve educational or clerical roles and assist the building staff with professional duties as assigned by the school’s principal. Duties may include library aide, classroom support, clerical production, and record-keeping.
