SM East Celebrates State Championship, Hall of Fame Inductees
Shawnee Mission School District

This spring marked another outstanding season for Shawnee Mission East tennis.

The boys tennis team earned its second consecutive Kansas State Activities Association (KSHSAA) team championship. Blake Eason, 2021 graduate, and Hudson Mosher, 2021 graduate, also won the doubles title during the KSHSAA tournament.

In mid-May, the tennis community also paid tribute to two Shawnee Mission East coaches for their contributions to the sport.

Shawnee Mission East tennis coach Andy Gibbs was honored as the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association (KTCA) Coach of the Year. Additionally, longtime Shawnee Mission East tennis coach, Sue Chipman, who was also a teacher in Shawnee Mission for 50 years, was inducted into the KTCA Hall of Fame.

Both of the coaches were selected for their overall success as a coach, regional and state titles, medals, league titles, and outstanding contributions, Cheryl Gleason, KSHSAA assistant executive director noted.
