This week, a group of Shawnee Mission School District educators are enhancing their skills to better support young readers.

A three-day Literacy and Dyslexia Institute is being offered to teachers in the school district to empower them with multiple approaches to help students become successful readers.

On Tuesday, the educators welcomed Dr. Susan Hall, who shared research and strategies focused on literacy instruction. The institute will continue with Stacy Cates, founder of Kansas City Speech Professionals and speech language pathologist, who will discuss dyslexia and appropriate accommodations to support students. Further sessions will include strategies and interventions related to literacy presented by Shawnee Mission School District educators.
