Many of the more than 350 students enrolled in Jump Start to Learning took their first field trip this summer.
These students who attended Jump Start in preparation for kindergarten traveled by bus to SM West High School where they were able to watch a performance by Stone Lion Puppet Theatre. Click here to see a video.
In the classroom, Jump Start teachers across the district connected the field trip experience to lessons. At Bluejacket-Flint, for example, students created puppets and read stories about the jungle. Later, they performed the show for guests. The activities helped students better understand what they saw on the field trip, Stefanie Forbes, Jump Start administrative intern said.
During Jump Start to Learning, students practiced literacy, numeracy, and the skills of being a student before the first day of school. The program was offered to students in 20 buildings across the district in July.
