There are new science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) summer enrichment opportunities open to students who were in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade in the 2018-19 school year.
These summer STEAM Classes will be offered this June at the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA), 8200 W. 71St St. The CAA serves as a unique campus allowing for innovative and experiential learning. Classes include exploration in Animation, Biotechnology, Health Care, Engineering, and Game Design. The classes are modeled after Signature Programs for high school students offered at the CAA.

Students who enroll in both an AM and PM Summer Enrichment classes during the same week may stay for lunch care at no extra charge. Students will need to bring a sack lunch and drink for STEAM classes at the CAA. Food Services Summer Lunch is not available at this location. Early Care/Late Care not available.
Biotech Bootcamp (What the Heck is Biotech?)

Week 2 June 17-21 AM or PM Current Grades 7-8 (2018-2019)
Participants will learn and practice standard laboratory techniques used in molecular biology. Techniques may include the use of specialized measuring equipment, microbiology, cell culture, DNA extraction and amplification, gel electrophoresis, enzyme assay, and solution prep. Students will also explore research topics for further investigation.
Camp CARE (Compassion, Action, Respond, Explore)
Week 1 June 10-14 AM Current Grades 7-8 (2018-2019)
Student participants will have the opportunity to investigate and develop the language and skills connected to the world of health care. Students will analyze a case study each day and examine specialty areas that parallel topics researched by students in the Medical Science program.
Week 2 June 17-21 AM - Current Grade 6 (2018-2019)

Participants will work in teams to solve mechanical, civil, architectural, or electrical engineering challenges with the help and advice of high school PLTW students as well as engineers from industry.
Week 2 June 17-21 AM - Current Grades 6-7 (2018-2019)
Students will design, create, test and debug 2D, arcade-style computer games using Gamemaker studio 2. Students will explore game design principles, elements of game creation and coding as part of the game development process.
Week 2 June 17-21 PM - SESSION FULL
Current Grades 6-7 (2018-2019)
The development of visual creativity expressed through drawing and technology will be explored. Students will be exposed to the principles of animation and persistence of vision as they develop animation toys and digitally generated 2D animations using industry standard graphics software.
