2024 Staff Art Show
The following information was sent to all Shawnee Mission School District staff members on Aug. 20, 2024. Hello Team 512, I am excited to share the staff art show at the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) is returning this school year! You are invited to submit an original work of art to be included. Shawnee Mission has a tradition of hosting staff art shows and the tradition was re-established in the 2023-2024 school year. Opportunity for Monetary Prize Those who submit artwork to the show have the chance to earn a monetary prize, through the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation. One artist will receive a $250 personal recognition and a $250 grant in support of their building’s art department. Their selected work of art will join the district’s staff art collection, which will be featured in the CAA gallery space annually from May-June. Staff who wish for their artwork to be included in the staff show but do not want their artwork considered for selection to join the district’s permanent staff art collection can designate their artwork as “display only.” Timeline All staff are welcome to deliver an original work of art to the Center for Academic Achievement by Friday, August 30, 2024. The art show will officially open on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. This art show will be hosted at the CAA from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday until Sept. 26, 2024. One winning piece will be selected from the artwork designated for personal recognition and grant funds. Artwork designated as for display only will not be considered for selection. How to Submit Please bring your work of art to the Center for Academic Achievement, 8200 W. 71st St. Place artwork on the shelf labeled in the cafe for staff art drop off. All artwork must have a discretely attached label, and include all information:
Info included on the label will be transferred to a district art tag which will be on display with the artwork. Make labels easily removable for display.
