Recommended Beginning String Instruments

The following list represents the quality brand instruments recommended by the Shawnee Mission instrumental teaching staff; accessories, both required and optional, are also itemized. Beginning string students are expected to provide their own instruments, however, a limited number are available for rent from the school district. Students interested in playing a school-owned instrument should consult their teacher regarding availability.

The necessary textbook: Measures of Success Book 1 for both fifth & sixth grades.
