Affinity Groups

SMSD Affinity Groups

Affinity Group Info by Kaitlin Lugo

Affinity Groups are voluntary employee resource groups where individuals come together based on shared experiences, identities, or interests.

Purpose: At SMSD, affinity groups serve as supportive spaces where employees with shared identities or interests can connect, collaborate, and provide mutual support. These groups foster a sense of belonging, promote diversity and inclusion, and address specific needs or challenges faced by their members.

Objectives:  Affinity Groups are retention tools that are specifically designed to provide support for educators and help them remain in the profession as well as offer opportunities for professional development, networking, and advocacy.  Affinity groups contribute to a more inclusive and equitable work environment, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being and effectiveness of the school community.

For more information about joining an affinity group or potentially starting one, please complete this interest form and email the DEIB Coordinator, Kaitlin Shulman.
