Transfer Procedures
Any new request to transfer outside of the home school attendance area must be submitted through the office of Leadership and Learning.
Please note that the process has changed and there are two separate transfer request windows: the first for students currently enrolled in grades K-11 and incoming kindergarten students starting 2024-2025 school year, the second for nonresident students.
Students in good standing who are currently attending on transfer and wish to continue at the same school do not need to reapply.

SMSD students currently enrolled in grades K-11 and incoming kindergarten students starting 2024-2025 school year:
The custom form to request transfer for the 2024-2025 school year will automatically open in Skyward Family Access at 12 a.m. on February 1, 2024 and will automatically close at 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2024.
Families submitting kindergarten enrollment applications after school offices close on May 27 will need to contact the office of Leadership and Learning upon the submission of your enrollment application to finalize enrollment. Once enrollment is processed, you will be able to submit a transfer application.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, transfer decisions will be communicated by the Office of Leadership and Learning no later than March 20.
Nonresident students:
If your student resides in Kansas AND meets the “Good Standing” Requirements as listed in the Transfer Procedures Handbook, please submit a nonresident transfer request. The transfer request window for the 2024-2025 school year will automatically open at 12 a.m. on June 1 and must be completed by June 30 at 11:59 p.m. Prior to completing the form, you MUST first complete the enrollment process through the online enrollment portal. You must provide documentation that your student meets the criteria for good standing in order to be considered for transfer. Please have your student's current school send the last two (2) years of records to TransferRecords@smsd.org.
Families without Internet access may go to your home school or to The Center for Academic Achievement at 8200 W. 71st Street for assistance.
Transfer decisions will be communicated by the Office of Leadership and Learning by the end of the day on July 15. No transfer is guaranteed. Please make sure to consider your home school enrollment timeline.
