The Shawnee Mission School District is proud to offer its staff numerous opportunities to engage in programs designed to increase their overall health and wellbeing. Please explore the different avenues of Staff Wellbeing below.
Diabetes Prevention Program
What: a lifestyle-change program for employees with district-sponsored health insurance at no charge. (Other insurance and self-pay options available). The Diabetes Prevention Program helps people with prediabetes lose 5-7% of their starting body weight and increase physical activity minutes to 150 per week.
When: Starting September 9, 2019 4:15-5:15pm. The program is 24 sessions long.
Where: Center for Academic Achievement, Room 2041

CPR Training Classes
What: CPR/AED training. All classes are offered free to SMSD employees.
When/Where: All classes are held at Center for Academic Achievement, 8200 W 71st St. Check out the schedule here.
Registration: Sign up through the staff development page on the SMSD website, or call Mary Cooper at 913-993-8658.
What: An online program that will teach you how to eat all your favorite foods, but not gain weight. It does not include starving, counting calories, or spending hours prepping ‘approved’ foods! You will learn how to eat the foods you love while reducing your risk of developing serious conditions, like diabetes or heart disease. Available at no cost and is accessible via computer and mobile device. Must be a BlueKC plan member to be eligible for acceptance.
When/Registration: Apply between September 2-13, 2019 at www.naturallyslim.com/SMSD. Program starts September 30, 2019. Space is limited.
