Board Approves Updated Mitigation Plan
The Shawnee Mission Board of Education gathered for a special meeting on Monday, April 18, 2022. The Board approved an updated Mitigation Plan for the 2021-2022 school year.
With the adoption of this plan, no schools in SMSD currently meet the 5% threshold, and no students in the SMSD will be required to wear masks, effective Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
The approved mitigation plan states:
- Effective April 19, 2022 and for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year, total COVID-related absences must remain below five percent (5%). In the event that an individual building (school) exceeds this threshold, that building (only that building) will temporarily return to the mask requirement and will need to drop below five percent (5%) of COVID-related absences for one week before moving to optional masking.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Hubbard shared that prior to the meeting, district staff consulted with staff from the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, reviewed Centers for Disease Control recommendations, and reviewed mitigation plans in the immediate area. These consultations informed the plans placed before the Board on the April 18, 2022 agenda.
Full details of the plan are included here:
