• Write in everyday language
• Keep sentence and paragraphs short
• Spell out acronyms and avoid jargon

• Use built-in heading styles to organize your document or page rather than enlarging and decreasing font size to organize information

• Include clear, short descriptions of what the image shows.
• Describe the purpose of the image - what someone would need to understand if they couldn’t see it.
• If the image is decorative only, use “ “ in the alt text to skip.
• Avoid images of text. If text is included, it must be added to the Alt Text.

For example: The alt text for the image below is, "A teacher kneels on the classroom rug talking with a group of young students sitting in a semi-circle."

• Write meaningful link descriptions

  • Incorrect: Click here

• Use high contrast colors: dark text on a light background is best.
• Avoid using only color to show meaning (Items in green are missing)
• Use easy-to-read font sizes with a minimum 11pt for documents

• Give your files and documents meaningful names
  • Example: “Board_Recap_10.17.25” instead of “Document 1”

• Is the language clear and easy to understand?
• Is the layout organized with real headings?
• Can someone understand this without seeing colors or images?
• Do the images have alt text?
• Are videos captioned?
• Are links descriptive?
• Is the file name helpful?
