ESSER Funds
On March 27, 2020 the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was enacted and provides support for education agencies through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund. When the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act was enacted on December 27, 2020, additional financial support for education agencies was made available through the ESSER II Fund.
These funds can be used for preventing, preparing for, and responding to COVID-19; addressing learning loss; preparing schools for reopening; and, testing, repairing, and upgrading projects to improve air quality in school buildings. Additionally, we are anticipating ESSER III funds for future years, so for planning purposes, this report includes recommendations should we get that money in the future.
